Most of all, though, there are way, way too many city levels in a game with only nine altogether. I think I would have preferred ten levels where Classic and Modern had five each, where Sonic 3 and Sonic CD would get dedicated levels of their own instead of Classic stopping at Sky Sanctuary, and Heroes' stage absolutely should have been Egg Fleet instead of Seaside Hill which is Green Hill Zone With Water. Really, my only beef is that I think the way the game distributes its levels is kinda wack.

It's a nice way to stretch the content which a four hour game kinda desperately needs. The little bonus missions are a lot of fun even if they're clearly for padding, plus it gets the friends involved and has that bitchin' remix of Super Sonic Racing. but in shiny HD!' and Modern Sonic has all these swoops and loops and curves and expansiveness to it that I adore his levels even more than Classic. It actually does a really good job of differentiating between the two Sonics even in 2D space, like the levels just feel innately designed for each of them even though you're looking at the exact same aesthetic Classic Sonic just looks and feels like 'old Sonic. It's a good time, just wonder why it went so wrong afterwards.
